About me
I’m a computer engineer from Galicia currently doing a PhD in Artificial Intelligence at LIDIA Lab, University of A Coruña. I’m supported by an FPI predoctoral contract from the Spanish Ministry of Science.
My background is in Computer Engineering, which is where I first got into programming and building things with software. Over time, I found myself spending more and more time around AI and machine learning. I enjoy the engineering side of it just as much as the research: understanding how things work, trying ideas out, and, sooner or later, getting them to actually work.
I have an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from UDC, where my master’s thesis focused on efficient continual learning. That work ended up becoming a bigger part of my research journey than I initially expected, and received the AEPIA Best Master’s Thesis Award at EVIA 2025.
I’m now working on Frugal AI, broadly interested in how we can make machine learning systems more efficient when resources are limited. That includes computation and hardware, but also data, communication, infrastructure, and other constraints that can make machine learning expensive or difficult to deploy. This is part of what led me towards areas such as federated learning and few-shot learning, while continual learning remains an important part of my research and PhD work.
Outside research, I’ve always enjoyed hackathons. I’ve participated in quite a few over the years, won some of them, and for the last couple of years I’ve been helping organize HackUDC with GPUL. I also teach and write software, and I tend to have more ideas than I have time to try. This website is partly an excuse to do something about that.
I don’t really see this as just a portfolio. It’s a place to keep track of what I’m working on, document things I’ve learned or built, and share some of them with whoever happens to find their way here. Hopefully, it will also be useful to look back on a few years from now and see what I was doing, thinking about, and trying to figure out.
